Make a physical mark in a ticket or card

A ticket punch cuts a small shape from suitable material. It makes a physical opening rather than an inked impression. The available 05 and 464 models are hand-operated punches offered for train conductors, bus drivers and picking or harvesting records. Their listed materials are paper, light card stock and thin plastic. Open the product page to see the exact tool and its ordering choices.

Begin with the item you need to mark. Consider the material, where the mark should sit and whether a particular shape matters to your process. Those questions determine which product details to check. A familiar-looking metal handle is not enough to establish that another punch has the same reach, cutting shape or material rating.

Check the reach before choosing a punch

Reach, also called throat, describes how far the tool can access the material from an edge. The 05 has a 1½-inch reach, while the 464 has a two-inch reach. This measurement is separate from the shape it cuts and from the overall size of its handles. Compare the location of your intended mark with that reach before ordering.

For a ticket hole punch, make sure the tool can access the intended part of the ticket without covering information you need to retain. If you are choosing a loyalty card hole punch, consider the positions allocated for marks on your card. These are layout decisions for your own ticket or card; the product does not include a printed card design or promise to fit every layout.

Choose a cutting shape from the actual chart

Both listings offer 100 designs in a reference chart. Random Design leaves the shape to the available selection. Choose A Design lets you specify the complete printed code beside a shape. The chart codes begin with ND and run from ND1 through ND100. Compare the shape and code together; a bare number does not identify the complete printed chart reference.

One punch is supplied with the selected cutting design. The chart is a menu of choices, not a bundle of 100 tools or interchangeable dies. This exact listing does not accept an uploaded logo or a drawing. If your task needs a particular mark, choose its chart entry instead of leaving the order on Random Design.

Match the material to the listing

Paper, light card stock and thin plastic are the stated material range for both available models. A maximum thickness and a stack capacity are not specified. Avoid assuming that a tool suitable for thin plastic is also rated for a rigid badge, thick laminated card or a stack of sheets. Resolve an uncertain material requirement before placing the order.

The 464 has a nickel-plated iron handle; the 05 has a zinc/aluminum alloy handle. Both list a steel die. Each product photograph shows its exact tool. When comparing a railroad ticket punch or conductor punch elsewhere, check the exact model and its options rather than treating the descriptive name as a guarantee of identical construction or capability.

Keep each design attached to its order

Each product page places Qty first. The 05 calls the choice Design, while the 464 calls it Hole Punch Design. Design Number follows when a specific design is selected. Review the reference chart and enter the code before adding that configuration to your cart. If several people need the same design, the quantity applies to that selection.

For different designs, add separate configurations so each code has its own cart item. Check the product, quantity and design shown in the cart before checkout. You can return to the configuration to correct a choice; switching back to Random Design removes the previously entered code from the order.
