Pennsylvania professional engineer seal requirements

RulePennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and GeologistsStatus
DesignIdentical to the board’s Design A for Registered Professional Engineer: circular Commonwealth of Pennsylvania border, central keystone and name band, with the registrant’s name and registration number (§37.58 and official illustration).Verified
Diameter1¾ inches. A pocket seal may be reduced to 1½ inches while preserving the design’s relative proportions. The pocket exception is not a specification for this Trodat 46050 listing (§37.58(c)).Verified
Seal typesMetal, rubber stamp, computer-image facsimile and digital seals are permitted if the registrant first obtains a seal complying with the section. All use the authorized design (§37.58(d)).Verified
Final documentsFinal or complete documents issued to the client or submitted for final agency review prominently show the responsible registrant’s seal, signature and issuance date on the first page. Subsequent plan or plat pages carry facsimile or digital seals (§37.59(1)–(3)).Verified
Signature placementApply the signature near or across the seal without obliterating the registration number. Handwritten signing uses permanent ink; digital signing follows the electronic requirements (§37.59(4), (7)).Verified
Digital authenticationDigital signatures and seals each require an associated authentication process: unique, verifiable, under the professional’s sole control and invalidated when document data changes. JPG/PDF artwork alone does not provide that process (§37.60).Verified
License status and temporary permitsDo not apply a seal after licensure expires or while it is suspended or revoked. A temporary permit holder uses the home-state seal, signature and a copy of the permit (§37.59(5)–(6); registration law section 7).Verified
Ink colorThe reviewed seal provisions do not prescribe an impression color. The required identity must remain readable; the permanent-ink requirement applies to the handwritten signature (§§37.58–37.60).Verified

What a Pennsylvania professional engineer stamp is for

A Pennsylvania professional engineer stamp identifies the registered engineer responsible for professional documents. Section 7 of the registration law requires a board-authorized seal bearing the registrant’s identity. The current use rules explain how that seal accompanies the signature and date on completed work. Purchasing a stamp does not confer registration or authority to practice engineering.

This product is the Pennsylvania Registered Professional Engineer design on the Trodat 46050 self-inking mount. Use it for the engineering registration shown on your Pennsylvania record. A land surveyor or geologist uses a different board design, and a temporary-permit holder follows the separate home-state-seal procedure.

Pennsylvania engineer seal design and size

Current 49 Pa. Code section 37.58 requires the seal to match the board’s Design A. The circular border refers to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A keystone and horizontal name band organize the center, with Registered Professional Engineer, your name and registration number. Our text preview helps you check the entered details; its caption explains that the final seal uses the keystone design.

The standard diameter is 1¾ inches. A pocket seal may use a 1½-inch diameter with the same relative proportions. This listing is a Trodat 46050, not a pocket-seal option, so the smaller exception is not used to describe its finished impression. The supplier does not separately state a measured finished-die dimension, and the housing photograph is not a scale drawing.

Enter the complete registration number under License Number, including its letters and leading zeros. Enter your registered name under Registrant Name. There is no branch, expiration-date or signature engraving field on this exact product. Information required when you issue a document remains distinct from the identity engraved into the stamp.

The Trodat 46050 self-inking mount

Your Pennsylvania professional engineer stamp uses an internal ink pad for repeated stamping. Its open lower frame helps position the impression, and nonslip feet help steady the housing. The internal pad can be refilled or replaced. The product photograph shows the black upper body and light-gray open base, while your personalized design goes on the stamp face.

The listed ink is water based and does not dry on glossy paper or Mylar. Choosing another color does not change that limitation. Select a suitable document surface for the ink you order. The black housing in the photograph is separate from the color of the impression.

Ordering your Pennsylvania PE stamp

Set Qty, then enter Registrant Name and License Number in that order. Choose Ink Color and check your details in the preview. The optional digital file adds your personalized seal artwork in JPG and PDF formats, emailed after creation. It is not an instant download or an electronic-signature service.

The refill bottle, extra pad and pad-and-ink combination are independent selections. The combination includes one matching pad and one 1 oz bottle. If you select the combination plus a separate pad or bottle, both selections become part of the order. Check the running total and quantity before continuing.

Use Special Instructions for information relevant to this product. Review the identity, ink and supplies in the cart. If you change a saved configuration, review the updated extras and total as well, so the final order accurately describes the stamp and supplies you want.

Signatures and electronic sealing

A Pennsylvania professional engineer seal is used only for work the registrant prepared or completely directed and controlled. Final documents supplied to the client or submitted for final agency review prominently carry the responsible registrant’s seal, signature and issuance date on the first page. Subsequent plan and plat pages carry facsimile or digital seals. Multiple responsible registrants identify their own work as section 37.59 describes.

Place the signature near or across the Pennsylvania PE seal without obscuring the registration number. A handwritten signature uses permanent ink. The order form does not collect a signature or signing date because those relate to the completed documents, rather than this stamp’s personalized face.

Section 37.60 requires authentication for both a digital seal and digital signature. Each must be unique, verifiable, controlled by the professional and linked to the document so that changed data invalidates it. The optional JPG and PDF artwork does not itself supply that security process. Check the full current rules before choosing how to seal and sign an electronic submission.

Pennsylvania professional engineer stamp questions

What diameter must the PE stamp Pennsylvania engineers use have?
Section 37.58 specifies 1¾ inches. Its 1½-inch exception is for a pocket seal with proportionally identical design. That exception is not a finished-size claim for this Trodat 46050 product.
Why does the preview omit the keystone?
The text preview checks your entered identity and is labelled accordingly. The final Pennsylvania engineer seal follows the board’s Design A, including the central keystone and horizontal name band.
Does this Pennsylvania professional engineer stamp include my signature?
No. The exact form personalizes the seal with Registrant Name and License Number. The required signature and issuance date are applied to the professional documents separately.
Can I use the optional digital file as a complete signing system?
No. JPG and PDF provide artwork. Section 37.60 separately requires authentication, verification, sole control and invalidation on document changes for digital seals and signatures.
Can a temporary-permit holder use this Pennsylvania stamp?
The rule gives temporary-permit holders a different procedure: the home-state seal, signature and a copy of the temporary permit accompany the Pennsylvania work. This ordinary Pennsylvania registration product is not a temporary-permit package.
Can I add the combination and a separate ink bottle?
Yes. The matching pad, 1 oz refill and combination are independent checkboxes. Selecting more than one adds each selected supply to the order, and the total changes with those choices and quantity.
