What a New York professional engineer stamp is for
A New York professional engineer stamp identifies the engineer taking responsibility for engineering documents. Education Law section 7209 requires a professional seal and describes the plans, specifications, plats and reports that must be sealed and signed when filed with public officials. The seal is personalized equipment for your professional work; purchasing it does not grant a license or authorize the practice of engineering.
This product is the ordinary Licensed Professional Engineer seal on a Trodat 46050 self-inking mount. It is not an architect, land surveyor, geologist or combined engineer-and-surveyor seal. Check your New York licensure and registration before using it, and use the wording appropriate to the profession in which you are authorized to practice.
New York engineer seal design and identity
The current seal provision is Part 68.13. For applicants initially applying for licensure on or after July 1, 1984, it specifies a circular seal approximately 1¾ inches in diameter. State of New York appears at the top of the outer band and Licensed Professional Engineer at the bottom. Inside, your name sits above the Great Seal of New York, with your license number below and no other letters or numbers.
Our text preview lets you check your name and number. It does not reproduce the central Great Seal, and its caption makes that omission clear. The official board illustration provides the final layout. The housing photograph is not a scale drawing, and the exact finished impression dimension is not separately stated in this product listing.
Use Registrant Name and License Number as the form labels indicate. Keep any leading zeros in your number. The listed seal has no engineering-branch, signature or expiration-date engraving field. A signature and other information required on your documents remain separate from the personalized seal itself.
The Trodat 46050 self-inking mount
This New York professional engineer stamp uses the round Trodat 46050 with an internal ink pad. The open lower frame helps you position the impression, and nonslip feet help steady the stamp. Its pad can be refilled or replaced as it wears. The product view shows the black upper housing and open light-gray base, not your finished personalized stamp face.
The listed water-based ink does not dry on glossy paper or Mylar. Changing the color does not remove that limitation. Choose a suitable document surface and the ink option appropriate to your work. The photograph shows the housing color; the ink selection controls the impression color.
Ordering your New York PE stamp
Set Qty, enter Registrant Name, then License Number, and choose Ink Color. Review the spelling and number in the preview before moving to the optional supplies. The digital-file option adds your seal artwork in JPG and PDF formats. Those files are emailed after creation; they are not an instant download from this page.
Refill ink, an extra replacement pad and the pad-and-ink combination are three independent choices. The combination includes one matching pad and one 1 oz bottle. Selecting it together with a separate bottle or pad adds both selections to your order. The running total reflects the chosen extras and quantity.
Use Special Instructions for information relevant to the selected product. Review your details, ink, supplies and quantity in the cart before checkout. If you edit a saved configuration, check the updated total and the extras again so the final order describes the product you want made.
Electronic sealing, signatures and alteration notices
NYSED practice guidance accepts an embossing seal, rubber stamp or electronic seal. The optional New York professional engineer seal file supplies the artwork; it does not supply a digital-signature certificate or establish permission to submit electronically to every recipient. The guidance explains that electronic-signature use is voluntary and that compatible acceptance arrangements matter. Confirm the receiving authority’s requirements for your submission.
The professional signature must leave the name and license number legible. Section 7209 also requires alteration-warning wording on the sealed plans, specifications, plats and reports it covers. This warning is separate from the circular New York PE seal. It is not shown as an included accessory on this product, and it is not silently added as an engraving field.
If a sealed item is altered, section 7209 requires the altering professional’s seal, an altered by notation, signature, alteration date and a specific description of the change. A replacement stamp does not remove those document obligations. Read the complete statute and current regulation when deciding how to sign, seal or revise professional work.
New York professional engineer stamp questions
- What size is the PE stamp New York engineers are required to use?
- Part 68.13 describes an approximately 1¾-inch circular seal for applicants initially applying for licensure on or after July 1, 1984. That is the rule’s wording, not a measured finished-die specification from the product photograph.
- Why is the Great Seal absent from the live text preview?
- The preview checks your entered name and number. Its caption identifies the omitted Great Seal of New York. The final New York engineer seal uses the official illustrated layout, with your name above the Great Seal and your number below.
- Does this New York professional engineer stamp include my signature?
- No. The order form collects Registrant Name and License Number for the seal. Your professional signature is applied to the required documents separately and must not obscure the name or number in the seal.
- Is the alteration-warning stamp included?
- No. The exact product listing offers the circular engineer seal and the listed digital-file and ink-supply extras. Section 7209 requires separate alteration-warning wording on the documents it covers; this page does not represent that warning as an included product.
- Can I use the digital file instead of signing my engineering documents?
- No. JPG and PDF files provide seal artwork. They do not replace a required signature, responsibility for the work or the receiving authority’s electronic-submission requirements.
- Can this same seal be ordered for an architect or land surveyor?
- This exact product is the Licensed Professional Engineer design. Other professions and combined licenses have different wording under the applicable rules and require their corresponding products.
