Design and wordingInclude your licensed name and full license number, with State of Michigan and Licensed Professional Engineer in the legend surrounding the seal (R 339.16032, quoted by LARA).Verified
Name and license numberBoth must match your state-issued professional engineer license. LARA says an application with a nonmatching seal is held until corrected documents are submitted. Enter your full number, preserving its leading zeros.Verified
SizeThe reviewed LARA seal clarification and MCL 339.2007–2008 do not specify a numerical diameter. The exact product is round; no finished die measurement is reported in its listing.Verified
SignatureApply your seal and signature to a plan, specification, plat or report issued by you and filed with a public authority. The seal does not replace the signature (MCL 339.2007(2)).Verified
Current license and custodyUse the seal only while your license is effective, and keep it secure. Do not apply a seal or signature while that license is expired, suspended or revoked unless renewed, reinstated or reissued (R 339.16032(2); MCL 339.2007(2)).Verified

What a Michigan professional engineer stamp is for

A Michigan professional engineer stamp identifies the licensee responsible for engineering documents. Michigan requires a seal and signature on the specified plans, specifications, plats and reports issued by a licensee and filed with a public authority. Use the seal for work you prepared or supervised as the person in responsible charge.

Possessing a Michigan PE stamp does not establish that a license is current or authorize someone to seal another person’s work. The state prohibits applying a seal or signature while the named license is expired, suspended or revoked unless it has been renewed, reinstated or reissued.

The licensed name and full number matter

LARA’s clarification quotes Rule 339.16032: your seal must include the name and full license number shown on your state-issued professional engineer license. State of Michigan and Licensed Professional Engineer belong in the surrounding legend. The product’s round example follows that wording, with the licensed details inside.

Check every character of your number, including leading zeros, against the license. LARA explains that a nonmatching name or number on submitted construction documents causes the application to be held until corrected documents arrive. A short sample number shown in a generic illustration is not a reason to shorten your own issued number.

The reviewed clarification and statutory sections do not give a numerical seal diameter. This listing also does not state the exact finished die measurement. The image shows a Trodat 4642 housing; it should not be used to measure the impression.

The Trodat 4642 mount and matching supplies

This Michigan professional engineer seal uses one self-inking Trodat 4642 mount. Its internal pad inks the die between impressions, the open base helps with placement, and the pad can be re-inked or replaced. The product photographs show the housing, with the personalized impression out of view.

The supplied water-based ink does not dry on glossy paper or Mylar. Choose a suitable paper surface. The optional refill bottle, replacement pad and pad-and-ink combination are matched to this housing and the chosen ink color.

Ordering a PE stamp Michigan engineers can personalize

Set Qty, enter Registrant Name and License Number, and review the preview before selecting ink and extras. The form preserves those two identity fields for this exact stamp. Your signature is added when you sign a document; it is not a permanent engraving supplied through this form.

Digital artwork, refill ink, an extra pad and the combination are independent checkboxes. Select only what you need, enter any special instructions and check the running total. The combination already contains a pad and refill bottle, so selecting the separate options as well adds additional supplies.

Electronic seals and signatures in Michigan

The digital-file add-on provides JPG and PDF artwork of your Michigan PE seal. Michigan recognizes an electronically created and affixed seal, and separately defines an electronic signature affixed with intent to sign. Artwork containing your name and number does not itself provide that signature.

Keep both the physical seal and its electronic files secure. Rule 339.16032 makes the named licensee responsible for seal security and limits its use to the period when the license remains effective.

Michigan engineer stamp questions

What number goes on my Michigan professional engineer stamp?
Use the full number shown on your state-issued professional engineer license. Keep leading zeros and check the finished details against that license. LARA requires the name and full number to match the licensing record.
Can I shorten my licensed name on this seal?
The current LARA clarification requires the name as shown on the state-issued license. Enter that licensed name rather than substituting a nickname or a different professional name.
Does this product include an engraved signature?
No. This exact form collects Registrant Name and License Number. Michigan requires the applicable signature as well as the seal; the signature is supplied separately when signing the document.
Can a Michigan engineer seal a document electronically?
Michigan recognizes electronic seals and signatures under MCL 339.2007–2008. The optional JPG and PDF files are seal artwork, so the professional must still provide the required signature and meet the responsibility requirements for the document.
Can I keep using the stamp after my license expires?
Do not apply the seal or signature while the license is expired, suspended or revoked unless it is renewed, reinstated or reissued. Possession of the physical stamp does not establish an effective license.
