What a Louisiana professional engineer stamp is for
A Louisiana professional engineer stamp identifies the licensed engineer responsible for engineering documents. The board requires each professional engineer to obtain an official seal upon licensure. Firms are not authorized to possess or use professional seals. This product is personalized for an individual engineer; buying the equipment does not grant a professional license or establish responsibility for another person’s work.
This Shiny 542R carries the ordinary Professional Engineer design shown in the board’s approved examples. It does not include an engineering-branch or Licensed by Endorsement engraving option. Engineers licensed under the specified endorsement provisions need that additional prescribed wording. A temporary permit follows a separate procedure using the engineer’s home-jurisdiction seal and Louisiana permit number. Check that this ordinary design matches your license before ordering.
Louisiana engineer seal design and size
Section 2701 requires State of Louisiana, the licensee’s name, license number and the applicable professional title. The ordinary illustrated design includes the pelican device, with the name and License No. inside the circle and Professional Engineer below. Enter Registrant Name and License Number as the form requests. The live text preview checks those details; its caption explicitly identifies the pelican that is absent from the preview.
The board permits two seal diameters: 1⅝ inches or 2 inches. These are two specified sizes, not permission for every diameter between them. Rubber stamps and computer-generated seals must use the same approved design and size. The Shiny R-542 is listed for impressions up to 1⅝ inches, with the model capacity also described as 42 mm. That rounded model description is not a measurement of your finished Louisiana impression.
Keep your seal under your care, custody and control. Report a lost, misplaced or stolen seal to the board immediately. Your signature and signing date belong adjacent to or across the seal when the document is executed; this exact product does not collect them as engraving fields.
The Shiny 542R self-inking mount
This Louisiana professional engineer stamp uses a black Shiny R-542 round housing with an internal ink pad. Its open base helps you position the impression for repeated stamping. You can re-ink the pad or replace it when needed. The product-only image shows the R-542 body, including its small red side control and light-gray open lower frame.
Choose Ink Color for the impression rather than the housing. The listed water-based ink will not dry on glossy paper or Mylar. Selecting another color does not change that surface limitation. Use suitable paper and retain control of the personalized seal throughout its use and storage.
Ordering your Louisiana PE stamp
Set Qty, enter Registrant Name, then License Number, and choose one of the listed ink options. Preserve any leading zeros in the number and check both entries in the preview. There is no signature, signing-date, branch or endorsement selector on this product. Special Instructions can add relevant notes, but should not be used to assume an unlisted seal design is included.
The optional digital file provides your Louisiana professional engineer seal artwork in JPG and PDF formats, emailed after creation. Refill ink, an extra pad and the pad-and-ink combination are separate, independent choices. The combination contains one matching pad and one 1 oz bottle. Selecting a combination together with a separate supply adds both selections to the order.
Review quantity, identity, ink, supplies and the running total before checkout. You can return to the cart to edit the saved details and extras. The circular professional seal is the product being personalized; document preparation, the professional signature and the responsibility for its use remain with the engineer.
Signing, preliminary work and electronic documents
Completed engineering documents issued to a client or public agency must be sealed, signed and dated under section 2701. Multiple drawing sheets identify the professionals responsible for the whole project and for each sheet as the rule describes. Multi-page specifications, reports and design calculations use the first sheet or title page for the responsible professional’s certification. The rule also addresses assumed responsibility, specific project exemptions and compiled as-built records.
Preliminary documents must carry an appropriate large, bold preliminary designation. They do not have to carry a seal, signature or date, but must identify the licensee by name and number, plus the firm name when applicable. This differs from a completed document issued for use. Read the complete rule to choose the designation that describes the document’s purpose.
A Louisiana PE seal supplied as JPG/PDF artwork does not by itself provide secure electronic transmission. The board requires documents that need a seal to be transmitted in a secure mode preventing reproduction or modification of the seal, signature and date. Confirm the document-handling method and recipient requirements before sending professional work electronically.
Louisiana professional engineer stamp questions
- What sizes may the PE stamp Louisiana engineers use be?
- Section 2701 permits 1⅝-inch and 2-inch seals. Rubber and computer-generated versions use the same approved design and size. The two sizes should not be read as an unrestricted range.
- Does this Louisiana professional engineer stamp include the pelican?
- The finished ordinary seal follows the illustrated design with the pelican. The live preview checks your name and number and explicitly says that the pelican is omitted from that text preview.
- Can an endorsement license use this ordinary design?
- Licenses issued under R.S. 37:51 et seq. and the specified board provisions require the additional Licensed by Endorsement wording. This exact ordinary product has no endorsement engraving option; it should not be treated as that different design.
- Why is there no signature or signing-date field?
- The order form collects your Registrant Name and License Number for the seal. Your signature and date are applied adjacent to or across it on the document when required; they are not ordered as part of this impression.
- Must preliminary Louisiana engineering documents be stamped?
- The board does not require a seal, signature or date on preliminary documents. They must carry the appropriate bold preliminary designation, the licensee’s name and number, and the firm name if applicable.
- Can a firm order this as its corporate seal?
- No. Section 2701 says firms are not authorized to possess or use professional seals. This product is the individual engineer’s ordinary professional seal, not a corporate seal.
