Using a Kansas professional engineer stamp
A Kansas professional engineer stamp identifies the licensed professional responsible for the covered engineering documents. The board requires a licensee to obtain the approved seal within 30 days after issuance of the license. The seal, signature and date together certify preparation by the licensee or under that person’s responsible charge.
Use your Kansas PE stamp only for work within your licensure and competence. Reviewing another person’s technical submission does not, by itself, give you the responsible charge needed to seal it as your own work. Rule 66-6-1 describes the applicable documents, exceptions and responsibilities.
Kansas seal size, wording and licensed details
The Kansas engineer seal has two concentric circles. The outside circle is 1⅝ inches in diameter; the inner circle is 1¹⁄₁₆ inches. Your name appears between the circles at the top and Professional Engineer at the bottom. Licensed, the certificate number and Kansas appear inside.
Enter the name from your license. Kansas permits an abbreviated given name or initials representing the given name before the surname. Keep the license certificate number accurate and legible. These dimensions describe the seal design, not the height or width of its plastic housing.
Your handwritten or authenticated digital signature and the date go across the seal after you apply it. This product does not engrave a fixed signing date, because that date belongs to the document you are signing.
The self-inking Trodat 4642 housing
This Kansas professional engineer seal uses a single Trodat 4642 mount. It has a built-in pad, an open base for positioning and nonslip pads. The internal ink pad can be refilled or replaced. The photographs show the housing; your personalized impression is on the stamp face underneath.
The listed ink is water based and does not dry on glossy paper or Mylar. Use an appropriate paper surface. A matching 1 oz refill bottle, replacement pad or pad-and-ink combination can be selected with the stamp.
Choosing a PE stamp Kansas engineers can personalize
Start with Qty, then enter Registrant Name and License Number in that order. Review the preview and choose from the nine listed ink options. Add the digital file or supplies as needed, enter special instructions and check the total before continuing.
Every accessory checkbox is independent. The combination contains a pad and refill bottle; selecting an extra pad or refill separately adds more supplies. The form captures the details available for this exact product, while your signature and the date are applied when sealing the document.
Digital artwork and Kansas authentication requirements
The optional digital add-on supplies JPG and PDF versions of your Kansas PE seal. A seal image is separate from an authenticated digital signature. Kansas requires that signature to be unique, verifiable, under the licensee’s sole control and linked to the electronic document so a change invalidates it.
A transmitted or stored signed electronic document must bear the signature, signing date and seal. Alteration makes those elements void under the rule. Keep the artwork secure and use a signing process that meets the authentication requirements rather than treating the artwork file as a complete signing service.
Kansas engineer stamp questions
- What size is a Kansas professional engineer stamp?
- The required design has a 1⅝-inch outside circle and a 1¹⁄₁₆-inch inner circle. These are the seal dimensions in K.A.R. 66-6-1(a), rather than measurements of the Trodat housing.
- May I use initials in my Kansas seal name?
- Yes. The rule permits an abbreviated given name or initials representing the given name before the surname. Check the rest of the name against your license and enter the correct certificate number.
- Where do the signature and signing date go?
- Apply the handwritten or authenticated digital signature and date across the seal after the seal is applied. This exact product collects the licensed name and number, not a permanently engraved signature or date.
- Does the digital add-on authenticate my Kansas documents?
- No. It provides JPG and PDF seal artwork. The digital signature must separately satisfy the unique identity, verification, sole-control and document-change requirements of K.A.R. 66-6-1(b).
- Must every sheet of a Kansas drawing set have a separate seal?
- The rule provides several methods: seal each sheet, use an eligible digital process linking the sheets to responsibility, or use the specified certification block on the cover or first drawing sheet. Review 66-6-1(d) for the method appropriate to your set.
