A Colorado professional engineer stamp for your licensed work
A Colorado professional engineer stamp identifies the engineer signing and sealing professional documents. This product uses the Colorado engineering seal format on the Trodat 4642 self-inking mount. Enter your licensed name and license number, then choose the ink and optional extras for this exact stamp. Your finished seal carries your professional identity inside the state’s illustrated circular design.
Colorado’s engineering sealing provisions are in Rule 1.5(A) of 4 CCR 730-1. They describe the seal, the documents that need it, signature placement and how to identify preliminary work or a limited scope of responsibility. The requirements above come from the version effective June 30, 2026. The physical stamp helps apply your seal; your responsibilities for the work and its signature remain with you.
What the Colorado board requires
The Colorado professional engineer seal has two circles. The rule gives nominal outer and inner diameters of 1⅝ inches (41 mm) and 15/16 inches (24 mm). Colorado Licensed appears above and Professional Engineer below. Your name sits inside the upper portion, with your assigned license number centered beneath it. The example’s word NUMBER is a position marker and must be replaced by the actual number.
The illustrated numbers must be the same size as the letters in that NUMBER marker. Rule 1.5(A)(1) authorizes crimp, rubber-stamp and computer-generated seals and says seals obtained before July 1, 2005 are acceptable. This Colorado engineer seal listing is the rubber-stamp product on a self-inking housing; it does not include an embosser.
Your signature and the date of signature appear through the seal. When a document is not final but is sealed, identify its status as preliminary; an additional description such as for review may accompany that status. If your seal covers only particular disciplines or aspects of the document, place a specific written explanation of that responsibility next to it. All aspects of the work must be signed and sealed by the people in responsible charge.
The Trodat 4642 mount for a Colorado PE stamp
The Trodat 4642 uses an internal ink pad for repeated stamping. The open base helps place the seal, while the non-slip feet help align the housing on the paper. The pad can be replaced or re-inked. This Colorado professional engineer stamp is offered with Black, Pink, Red, Purple, Blue, Orange, Green, Dry or Brown as the ink selection.
The ink is water based and is unsuitable for glossy paper or Mylar because it will not dry on those surfaces. Dry selects an uninked stamp. The housing photo shows the complete Trodat 4642 body; the personalized impression is underneath. The photo does not establish the finished die’s measured diameter. Use the board dimensions as the design reference.
Ordering the PE stamp Colorado engineers use
Enter your licensed name and license number exactly as intended for the seal. The live preview lets you check the text before ordering. It is a typographic preview, with the final circular layout following the Colorado board illustration. This product’s form has no discipline or expiration-date field. You can enter special instructions, choose your quantity and check the running total before continuing.
The Colorado professional engineer stamp has an optional digital file supplied in both JPG and PDF formats. Its other listed extras are stamp pads with Black, Blue or Red ink. Each pad color is a separate checkbox. Those additional pads are optional; the self-inking stamp already uses its own internal pad for stamping.
The supplier listing does not identify these optional pads as a particular internal replacement-pad model. They are presented here as the listed extra stamp pads, with their chosen colors preserved independently. Choose only the options you need. The order keeps each selected extra connected to this Colorado stamp and its licensed details.
Electronic sealing and document placement
A Colorado PE seal can be computer generated, but the seal artwork and the electronic signature have separate roles. Rule 1.2(B)(17) requires an electronic signature to identify its user uniquely, support verification, remain under that person’s sole control and become invalid when linked document data changes. The digital-file add-on supplies image files; it does not provide the authentication system.
Rule 1.5(A)(2) ordinarily calls for a seal on each engineering drawing sheet. For the electronic alternative with seals only on cover pages, the covers must share the set’s sheet border, title block and project title. Every page must state in its title block that the seals are on the covers. Number all pages, identify the scope of work and relevant page numbers, and use Signature Dynamic Technology as required by that provision.
For specifications bound in book form, the rule identifies the cover, title or table-of-contents pages. Bound details prepared to supplement project drawings use the title pages. Engineering reports use their title or signature page. Check the full rule for the document you are issuing, including its signature, date and scope requirements.
Colorado engineer stamp questions
- Does Colorado require a signature through the seal?
- Yes. Rule 1.5(A)(3) places the licensee’s manual or electronic signature and signing date through the seal. The stamp supplies the personalized seal design; it does not apply your signature or choose the date you sign a document.
- What should replace NUMBER in the board example?
- Your assigned license number belongs in that centered position. The sample word NUMBER must not be printed on the finished seal. Your licensed name appears above the number in the inner area.
- Can I put an electronic seal only on a drawing set’s cover?
- Only when every condition in Rule 1.5(A)(2)(a) is met. The cover format, notation on every page, page numbering, scope identification and Signature Dynamic Technology requirements all apply. A JPG or PDF image by itself does not complete those requirements.
- Do the extra Black, Blue and Red pads replace the internal pad?
- The exact product listing calls these optional stamp pads and does not identify their model or label them as internal replacements. Their colors are independent choices. The Trodat 4642 itself uses an internal pad and needs no separate pad between impressions.
- Can the licensed details change between impressions?
- This Colorado professional engineer stamp carries the name and license number selected when you order it. Those personalized details stay on the stamp face for repeated impressions. Check them in the text preview before ordering; another licensed identity needs its own personalized seal.
